Parts: Structured Descriptions of Shape
نویسنده
چکیده
A shape representation is presented that has been shown competent to accurately describe an extensive variety of natural forms (e g., people, mountains, clouds, trees), as well as man-made forms, in a succinct and natural manner. The ap preach taken in this representational system is to describe scene structure at a scale that is similar to our naive perceptual notion of “a part,’ by use of descriptions that reflect a possible formative history of the object, e.g., how the object might have been constructed from lumps of clay. For this representation to be useful it must be possible to recover such descriptions from image data; we show that the primitive elements of this representation may be recovered in an overconstrained and therefore potentially reliable manner.

Structured Descriptions of Complex Objects
Experimental techniques are demonstrated which generate segmented symbolic descriptions for complex objects with joints, such as a hammer or a glove. Complete "descriptions with relationship of parts at joints and descriptions of joints are presented. These techniques are elements of a larger scheme for description mechanisms for hypotheses, and for visual memory and recognition. 1. Introductio...
متن کاملTowards A Framework For Learning Structured Shape Models From Text-Annotated Images
We present on-goingwork on the topic of learning translation models between image data and text (English) captions. Most approaches to this problem assume a one-to-one or a flat, oneto-many mapping between a segmented image region and a word. However, this assumption is very restrictive from the computer vision standpoint, and fails to account for two important properties of image segmentation:...
متن کاملGeneric Shape Learning and Recognition1
We address the problem of generic shape recognition, in which exact models are not available. We propose an original approach, in which learning and recognition are intimately linked, as recognition is based on previous observation. The input to our system is in the form of segmented descriptions of objects in terms of parts. In 2-D, the shape is incrementally decomposed into parts suggested by...
متن کاملAutomatic Object Shape Completion from 3D Point Clouds for Object Manipulation
3D object representations should be able to model the shape at different levels, considering both low-level and high-level shape descriptions. In robotics applications, is difficult to compute the shape descriptors in self-occluded point clouds while solving manipulation tasks. In this paper we propose an object completion method that under some assumptions works well for a large set of kitchen...
متن کاملIntegrating and Querying Parallel Leaf Shape Descriptions
Information integration and retrieval have been important problems for many information systems — it is hard to combine new information with any other piece of related information we already possess, and to make them both available for application queries. Many ontologybased applications are still cautious about integrating and retrieving information from natural language (NL) documents, prefer...
